Abstract:
This study examines the influence of teaching modes, modern technology, and intercultural communication on the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course for students at a secondary vocational school, aiming to propose a tailored language learning program. The research employs a descriptive research strategy within a quantitative framework, focusing on gathering and analyzing data from a specific subset of the population. A structured questionnaire, following the Questionnaire Star Form format, serves as the primary data collection instrument, encompassing four sections to comprehensively assess respondents’ profiles, knowledge of teaching modes, modern applications, and intercultural communication. The results reveal that students recognize the importance of intercultural communication skills in a globalized world, emphasizing the need for ESP courses to focus on developing these skills. Various teaching methods significantly influence students’ intercultural communication awareness, skills, and perceptions, while modern application skills, including software usage and technological integration, show strong correlations with intercultural learning. Differences in intercultural communication skills based on demographic factors, such as gender, highlight the necessity of personalized educational strategies. Students acknowledge the benefits and challenges of incorporating modern technology into ESP courses, underscoring its role in curriculum development and practical training. However, gaps in students’ ability to effectively apply intercultural communication skills suggest the need for real-world application opportunities. Feedback from students on their experiences with technology and intercultural communication provides valuable insights for continuous improvement in ESP course design and delivery. These findings underscore the importance of integrating modern application skills with intercultural communication training to prepare vocational students for global workplaces and align ESP courses with professional demands.
