Abstract:

This study aims to utilize and assess the effectiveness of informational text (InfoText) in developing students reading skills, specifically in Filipino 7, with deep understanding, thus increasing the level of reading comprehension. Thirty seventh-grade students participated in this study. The study was conducted at Matab-ang National High School, Matab-ang, Toledo City, Cebu, in the school year 2022-2023. Five instruments were utilized in this study: the pre-test, post-test, TOS, rubrics, and InfoText, which was personally crafted by the researchers and includes informational texts that contain folk songs anchored to the five competencies in reading that are validated by experts. A quasi-experimental design was conducted to assess the efficacy of InfoText in increasing the level of comprehension among the grade 7 students. It has been found that there was a large positive gap between the scores obtained from the pre-test and post-test. Based on the findings, the researchers stress the importance of the use of the InfoText strategy package, which made a significant contribution to the development of the respondents reading comprehension, and by continually using it as instructional material, it will be a great help in the teaching-learning process to enhance the reading comprehension skills of the students.
