Responsibility & Authorship: AI tools cannot be listed as authors. All authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of the work, including text, data, analyses, images, and references produced or assisted by AI.

What to Disclose: Name the tool(s) and version (e.g., “ChatGPT, GPT-4, September 2025”), describe what they were used for, and how you verified the output (e.g., fact-checking, re-analysis, citation checks).

Acceptable Uses (with disclosure): language polishing; idea generation; drafting or revising text; code assistance; figure or image generation; statistical suggestions; reference formatting.

Unacceptable Uses: fabricating or altering data; creating or manipulating images without disclosure; undisclosed ghostwriting; plagiarism; bypassing human IRB/ethical review; sharing confidential, private, or proprietary data with tools in ways that breach consent or agreements.

Where to Put It: Include an “AI Use Disclosure” subsection in the Methods or Acknowledgments (at the end of the paper, before the reference list) and keep it updated at revision. Would also advise to disclose AI usage within the cover letter during first submission or subsequent revisions.

Data & Ethics: Authors must ensure human-subject protections, permissions, and copyright compliance when using AI tools.
