Abstract:

This study examined the influence of sports activities on the multidimensional development of senior high school students. Specifically, it focused on how engagement in sports activities influences the students’ development in terms of physical, emotional, social, and mental aspects. A descriptive-quantitative research method was employed to measure the respondents’ responses, involving 175 senior high school students at Baliuag University, Baliwag City, Bulacan, Philippines. The study implied that senior high school students demonstrated a very high level of engagement in individual and dual and team sports, indicating that sports activities were found to be an integral part of their school experience. Among various sports, badminton, basketball, and volleyball emerged as the most influential and preferred sports for both male and female senior high school students. It was also found that the majority of the senior high school students participated in sports activities on a regular basis, engaging at least once or twice a week. Moreover, the study concluded that sports activities significantly influenced the multidimensional development of senior high school students, particularly their personal attributes, emotional maturity, teamwork and cooperation, and intellectual capacity. Although some areas were observed that needed to be taken into consideration, overall, the findings reflected a strong consensus among respondents regarding the positive influence of sports activities. The findings of the study served as a basis for proposing targeted recommendations to further enhance the university’s existing physical education and sports programs.
