Abstract:

This study examined the determining role of workplace spirituality in relation to negative workplace gossip and knowledge hiding among 94 public elementary school teachers in the Aritao I District during the academic year 2025–2026. Respondents were selected through Slovin’s Formula using a multi-stage sampling procedure that combined stratified and simple random sampling to ensure representativeness. Employing a quantitative descriptive-correlational design, the study gathered data through a validated and reliable instrument, with statistical analyses conducted using mean, Pearson’s r, and coefficient of determination (R²). Hypotheses were tested at the 0.05 significance level. Findings revealed that respondents perceived a high level of workplace spirituality (grand mean = 3.38), particularly in inner life, sense of community, and value alignment. Knowledge hiding was also rated high (grand mean = 3.51), mainly through evasive and rationalized behaviors, while negative workplace gossip likewise registered high (grand mean = 2.57), especially in intentionality, repetitiveness, and personal attacks. Correlation analysis indicated no significant relationship between workplace spirituality and either knowledge hiding or gossip, and no significant link between knowledge hiding and gossip, suggesting these counterproductive behaviors function independently. Based on these findings, the study proposed an intervention entitled “From Gossip to Growth: A Seminar Program for Building Collaborative and Ethical Teaching Communities,” designed to enhance workplace spirituality while mitigating knowledge hiding and gossip. Recommendations emphasized sustaining value-driven practices, fostering open knowledge-sharing systems, promoting ethical communication, and institutionalizing the proposed intervention for long-term impact. Replication in other educational contexts was likewise encouraged to strengthen generalizability.
