Abstract:
Literature serves as a reflection of diverse life experiences, values, beliefs, and cultures within specific communities. Through various literary forms, awareness of societal problems becomes evident. In the context of a Filipino family, a mother symbolizes hope and light. The strength of families often lies in how mothers embrace their responsibilities. This qualitative study employs a content analysis approach to interpret the short story “Landas ng Bahaghari,” written by Benjamin Pascual. The study aims to analyze the qualities of a mother within the framework of a Filipino family and to explore the societal issues depicted in the narrative. The researcher utilizes literary theories—realism, feminism, and imagism—to examine how the story reflects the life of a mother and the associated social challenges. The findings reveal that “Landas ng Bahaghari” illustrates the themes of endless love, sacrifice, and a mother’s readiness to fight for her rights on behalf of her child. The narrative highlights a mother with multiple facets that profoundly shape her character. Based on the analysis, it is recommended that Filipino society recognize and honor the vital role of mothers as beacons of hope within families.
