Abstract:

This study was conducted to determine the use of the word kasiyana in communication and the culture contained in it. The quantitative method focused on the descriptive design was used in the research. The study participants were adults from the municipalities of Bauko, Besao, Sagada, Sabanga, and Tadian, Mt. Province. Based on the study conducted, the following was discovered: the use of the word kasiyana in communication is mercy, the concept of hope, the concept of giving and having hove, and the concept of good, while the culture contained in the word kasiyana is positive view. From the findings of the study, the following was formed: the word kasiyana is not just a common word used in communication because it has the power to move a person, and there is a culture contained in the word kasiyana that serves as an identity of the Kankanaey group in Moutain Province. From the given conclusions of the study, the following suggestions were made: have more studies about native words and explore their meanings, and conduct in-depth studies on native words that are commonly used in communication by an ethnic group in the Cordillera and explore the embedded cultures.
