Abstract:

Maria Anabi is a folk tale of Palompon, Leyte. This story reflects the culture and the role of people in Palompon. The purpose of this study is to examine the theme, behavior, and dominant cultures, as well as the relationship of these cultures with the social responsibilities of the people of Palompon, from a psychological perspective. A qualitative method using Neuman’s content-based analysis was used in the study. Folktales were analyzed according to their content. The results of the study were the belief in fairies, the companionship of those for the beauty of life, extreme preparation in the celebration of any Filipino occasions, borrowing valuable things, giving gifts, and caves being the home of fairies. Aside from these, there was an appreciation for the importance of the preservation of Mother Nature. From a psychological perspective, the beliefs, behaviors, and attitudes of people were described. It is recommended to enrich the study of folk stories, especially in schools, so that the cultures that are mentioned in the stories can still be reflected by the students.
