Abstract:

The study examined the factors influencing skill transmission and preservation in the tea industry, focusing on workforce characteristics, cultural influences, and institutional support. Findings revealed that the majority of respondents were female and within the middle-age range of thirty-six to fifty-five years old, reflecting a mature and experienced workforce. Most participants had completed vocational training and possessed more than five years of work experience, emphasizing the vital role of hands-on technical expertise in maintaining both traditional and modern tea production practices. The results further indicated that cultural and social factors play the most significant role in skill transmission within the tea industry, underscoring the deep-rooted influence of community values and traditions in preserving technical knowledge and craftsmanship. Additionally, policy and institutional support emerged as crucial in sustaining tea industry skills, highlighting the importance of government and organizational initiatives in promoting long-term industry sustainability. Statistical analysis showed no significant differences among respondents when grouped according to demographic profiles, suggesting consistency in perceptions and experiences across workforce categories. Moreover, a highly significant relationship was found between skill transmission and skill preservation, confirming that effective technical training, innovation, workplace practices, and cultural engagement collectively strengthen intergenerational continuity of tea-making competencies. Based on these findings, an action plan entitled “Enhancing Workplace Practices and Program Effectiveness for Sustainable Tea Industry Skill Transmission and Preservation” was proposed to reinforce technical capacity, integrate cultural values, and ensure the enduring sustainability of the tea industry’s human capital and traditional heritage.
