Abstract:
This needs analysis examines Barangay Singkamas in Makati City to inform the development of community extension programs by the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM) at the University of Makati. Singkamas is a densely populated urban area with a diverse demographic and economic profile, facing significant challenges and opportunities. Despite its historical and economic vibrancy, the barangay grapples with disparities and environmental issues, necessitating targeted interventions. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study combines quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to assess the community’s needs and available resources. Key findings indicate a strong demand for skill development programs, particularly in cooking and gardening. Respondents highlighted cooking skills, including bread and pastry making, and gardening for flower and vegetable production as essential for economic stability and community engagement. These skills are seen as avenues for income generation and fostering local cohesion. Capacity building programs were also identified as critical for both personal and community growth. Participants expressed interest in workshops that would enhance their vocational and entrepreneurial skills, enabling them to better navigate economic challenges. The study concludes that community extension initiatives must be tailored to address these specific needs, focusing on skill development in cooking, baking, and gardening, and emphasizing capacity building. By aligning the programs with local priorities, this approach aims to promote sustainable development and improve the overall well-being of Barangay Singkamas residents. The findings provide actionable insights for designing a comprehensive community extension development plan that is both context-specific and impactful.
