Abstract:
This study entitled “Integration of Technology in the Teaching and Learning Process of Schools for the Indigenous People in Capas, Tarlac” is an explication of the role of technology in the teaching and learning process in areas where there is digital divide. Technology in this case is any tools used as a substitute for the internet. The respondents are from the schools in the mountainous areas of Capas, Tarlac where internet connectivity is unstable to zero or no connection. The design used was mixed method and it is anchored on the SAMR model by Hunter, T. (2015). The results indicated the low perception on the use of digital technology in the classroom and surprisingly, a high perception on the importance of social media in classroom instructions. Verbatim comments and themes developed suggest the need for an intensive training on the use of (digital) technology in classroom instructions. Themes constructed from the interview responses indicate a high interest in the integration of substitute technology which would address SDG 4, quality education. In general, the study concludes the need to conduct a capacity building program for the teachers and learners on the use of technology that would substantiate the absence of digital technology in the area.
