Abstract:
The objective of the study was to examine the students’ college readiness in a higher education institution. The study made use of a descriptive research method to effectively describe the results of the CRT. The study also employed a purposive sampling technique to select the targeted participants enrolled in the research location. Specifically, a total of 546 first-year students were invited to be involved in the study. The study concluded that the most significant indication of students’ college readiness was that they were committed to pursuing higher education. They possessed good leadership and management skills underpinned by flexibility and adaptability. However, the results of the achievement tests showed that students were not ready for college, with the lowest proficiency in mathematics, followed by science and communication media and information technology. In addition, the results of the aptitude test indicated that students require customized teaching to strengthen their logical skills and enhance their quantitative analysis, knowledge management, and verbal and abstract reasoning—skills for college success and personal growth. Furthermore, freshmen students in various colleges, according to the research, had equal levels of being college-ready, and there was consistency in being able to enroll and being ready to attain in the academic environment. The results of the study were used as a basis in directed recommendations to aid in informing higher education institution policies and student support services to improve the students’ college readiness.
