Abstract:

At present, the emergence of the world of cyberspace is not just for the young generation but also to those who belong to the different age group groups, particularly the women. Various societal images are being attributed to women and these reflect how they are being valued. This study is an analysis of female characters in novels (wattpad stories) in cyberspace written by contemporary authors. The researcher examined three (3) novels written by young writers – 1.) Twin’s Trick by iamyourlovelyriter; 2.) The Cassanova’s Girl by itsAyesa; 3.) Whipped Entice by jonaxx. The purpose of the study was to determine the obstacles that are associated on the development of women’s personality. The researcher utilized qualitative content analysis to attain the objectives of the study. Qualitative content analysis according to Valbuena (1985) is based on the presence or absence of a particular content, requires careful reading of the texts and is followed by summary and interpretation. In the three (3) novels, the obstacle to personality development among women’s beliefs according to the researcher and respondents is the presence of valuing family relationships and inability to prioritize oneself. However, women’s status became submissive to their husband to avoid conflict, while the novel also reflects the societal role of women as wives and mothers. These gave an interpretation that women give more importance to their roles as wife and mother rather than prioritizing oneself.
