Abstract:

This study attempted to examine deeply the social issues and literary theories inherent in Filipino film towards the development of a proposed model of film analysis. The study used qualitative design with a content analysis methodology to provide in-depth analysis. The respondents of the study were 15 BSED-Filipino major students from Leyte Normal University. They have watched the four selected Filipino films applying analysis sheet in scrutinizing the films. The study showed that the Filipino films tackled significant social issues that discuss about poverty, faith, heroism, ignorance and luxury. It was portrayed in the movies the positive attitude and disposition amid tragedy, poverty, despair and grappling for hope. The social issues found in the movies mirrored the current situations which awakened the aspirations of the movie casts. The theories of humanism, realism, romanticism and socialism were related to the events, attitudes and aspirations of the characters in each film. These films instilled cognizance, faith, trust and hope among viewers. The movies are helpful tool in teaching values education or on student resilience. A model of Filipino film analysis is recommended to be used by teachers and students in the subject of Filipino in Literary Criticism, Popular Culture, Film Society and Short Stories. The film review model will be used as a motivational tool and processing of information and literary concepts and writing skills.
