Abstract:

This study explored the use of slang of Generation Z in the Philippines. It focused on analyzing the sociolinguistic transformation of language particularly in Senior High School and College students in selected schools in Metro Manila. It has been found that Filipino Generation Z known as GenZers are still using the language patterns like back formation, clippings, acronyms, metathesis, and relating to an icon. Furthermore, this also revealed that GenZers have developed a language transformation in a process of changing word to word, change in meaning and creating expressions. It is recommended to further explore the study in looking in depth the effects of WikaGenz in written discourses, the implication of messages with the other generations, and its possible implications to sociolinguistic phenomena.
