Abstract:
The 1987 Philippine Constitution emphasizes the importance of instilling patriotism and nationalism, or a sense of love for the country, among Filipinos. Hence, this study focused on determining teachers’ knowledge and skills in patriotic pedagogy. It also aimed to determine the relationship between teachers’ knowledge and skills and students’ performance. A descriptive research design was employed, with data collected from secondary school teachers in Wright District 1 using a structured questionnaire. Content validity and reliability testing were conducted to ensure the validity and reliability of the research instrument. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the collected data through JASP. The findings revealed that teachers had deep knowledge of patriotic pedagogy, with an overall mean of 3.709, and demonstrated extensive skills, with an overall mean of 3.70. Students’ performance obtained an overall mean of 3.35, interpreted as “Highly Evident.” Furthermore, a significant relationship was found between teachers’ knowledge and skills and students’ performance, with a p-value of less than .001. The findings demonstrate a clear relationship between teachers’ knowledge and skills in implementing patriotic pedagogy and students’ performance. Based on the findings, the researchers recommend strengthening teachers’ knowledge and skills and developing instructional materials for patriotic pedagogy.
