Abstract:

Society has often viewed literary forms, particularly spoken word poetry, in terms of its form and style as opposed to its function and societal relevance. This study examines spoken word poetry and its impact to the voice of our Youth in this new normal situation and by means of addressing pressing social realities. This perspective will be analyzed through data gathered from different local artists/writers/performers conducted through zoom/google meet, participants chosen were a local writers and experienced performers of Spoken Word Poetry in different regions. Observations of the recorded videos of the well-known writers and poets in the world of Spoken World Poetry namely Juan Miguel Severo, Carlo Hornilla and Martin Naling. Interviews made as well with the Youth to determine the knowledge they have in this art form. This study used a qualitative approach since it deals on the content-based and literary context. Deep analysis made in understanding the craft and the use of it in the society nowadays. All of these will be incorporated into a textual discourse. This study achieves that spoken word is a tool for artistic expression, it can also serve as an outlet for marginal representation which in effect may bring about social action and change.
