Abstract:
This study aimed to examine teachers’ perspectives, identify the challenges they encounter, and describe the strategies they employ in implementing the Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum. The study utilized a qualitative research approach employing an Exploratory Case Study design. The participants consisted of selected Senior High School teachers from Holy Infant College of Tacloban City who were chosen through purposive sampling. Data were collected using semi-structured interviews and analyzed through inductive thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke’s framework. The findings revealed that teachers hold positive perceptions of the objectives of the new curriculum. However, they experience challenges related to curriculum implementation, the inadequacy of teaching and learning resources, and the complex processes of assessment and evaluation. Despite these challenges, the teachers demonstrated professionalism and resilience by engaging in continuous learning, collaborating with colleagues, utilizing technology, and developing their own instructional materials. The study further revealed that sustained institutional support, including professional training, mentoring, Learning Action Cells (LAC), and Professional Learning Communities (PLC), is essential for the successful implementation of the Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum. Overall, the findings indicate that the successful implementation of the new curriculum depends on teachers’ preparedness, the availability of adequate learning resources, and continuous support from both the school and the Department of Education.
