Sustainable supply chain management practices, lean management, and risk management capability among colleges and universities: Basis for enhanced productivity framework

Abstract:

This study examines the integration of Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM) practices, Lean Management, and Risk Management capabilities in colleges and universities to develop an enhanced productivity framework for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in China. Specifically, it assesses SSCM practices from environmental, social, and economic perspectives; Lean Management concerning workflow optimization, waste management, and supplier collaboration; and Risk Management capability regarding risk identification, mitigation, and continuous improvement. The study also explores the relationships among these management practices. This used descriptive research, convenience random sampling technique was employed to 400 selected participants from various universities. Findings indicate that respondents generally agree with the implementation of SSCM, Lean Management, and Risk Management practices. Furthermore, a highly significant relationship exists among these practices, highlighting their interdependence in enhancing institutional productivity. Based on these insights, an enhanced productivity framework was developed.
