Abstract:
This study aimed to determine the effect of interactive strategies on the cognitive ability of students in Effective Communication. A one-group pretest-posttest design was utilized involving 139 Grade 11 students at Gardner College-Cainta. Pretest and posttest scores were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a Paired Samples t-Test. The overall mean increased from 30.00 to 32.82, while the standard deviation decreased from 7.78 to 5.79. A statistically significant difference in the scores was established, t (138) = -6.52, p < .001. The highest skill improvement was observed in the clear and organized expression of ideas (+17.15%); however, pragmatics (Item 17, P = 0.34) and tone identification (Item 2, P = 0.43) remained challenges. Overall, the interactive strategies employed such as role-playing, group activities, gamification, and think-pair-share proved effective in enhancing students’ cognitive ability in Effective Communication. Nevertheless, targeted instructional guidance is still required for the technical and pragmatic aspects of language.
