Abstract:

The pervasive influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to reshape academic practices, making it an essential lens to examine both the challenges and opportunities it presents in educational contexts. Employing a phenomenological research design, data were gathered through in-depth interviews to illuminate the lived experiences of learners regarding the use of AI in Filipino language learning. The findings reveal that the primary challenges encountered include risks of plagiarism, limited accessibility, concerns over data quality and reliability, issues with structural and formulaic dependency, and the complexity of the verification process. Nevertheless, the study also foregrounds significant opportunities afforded by AI integration, particularly in fostering critical thinking, advancing literacy skills, cultivating academic habits, enriching linguistic knowledge, and broadening technological competence. These findings underscore the position that AI in education opens viable pathways for addressing the demands of contemporary learning practices and for adapting to the rapidly evolving landscape of 21st century education. Accordingly, this paper recommends a balanced approach to navigating the challenges and leveraging the opportunities presented by AI as a pedagogical tool, alongside the provision of institutional support governed by clear regulatory frameworks applicable to both the teaching and learning processes.
