Abstract:

This study explores the essential qualities and experiences that shape effective leadership, with a focus on nursing students and their perspectives on leadership development. Drawing from various themes, the research highlights key leadership traits such as motivation, communication, empathy, adaptability, and the ability to balance academic, personal, and leadership responsibilities. Participants discussed how nursing experience, leadership roles, and personal growth opportunities foster their leadership skills. The study also emphasizes the importance of trust-building, relationship development, and leading by example in establishing a positive and collaborative team environment. Additionally, the research identifies how leaders can inspire peers, manage organizational responsibilities, and drive change within clinical settings, with a strong emphasis on patient care and advocacy. The participants recognized the significance of self-care, time management, and emotional intelligence in sustaining leadership roles while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Furthermore, the study underscores the impact of leaders who find joy in their work, as this enthusiasm not only enhances their own performance but also motivates and empowers those around them. Based on the findings, several recommendations are made for future leaders, including fostering open communication, leading with empathy, encouraging mutual respect, and creating a work environment that promotes personal fulfillment. These insights aim to guide emerging leaders in nursing and other fields towards developing the skills necessary for effective, compassionate, and visionary leadership.
