Abstract:
This study, entitled “Literature in the Contemporary Period: A Critical Analysis of Siday Written at Tanauan National High School,” aims to collect, examine, and analyze Waray literary works, particularly siday, written by students of Tanauan National High School in Leyte. As its theoretical foundation, the study is anchored in Mimetic Theory, Realism, Sociological Theory, and Psychological Theory to better understand the relationship of the literary works to reality, society, culture, experiences, and the emotions of the writers. The researcher employed a descriptive research design to identify and describe the significant themes and messages embedded in the siday. Thematic analysis was also conducted to organize and present the data systematically. Prior to the collection of the literary works, the researcher observed important ethical considerations, including securing permission, respecting the authors, and ensuring the proper use of their works. Overall, five siday were collected and analyzed. The themes that emerged from the works included love, human behavior, and educational experiences. The findings reveal that siday serves as an important medium of Waray culture and reflects the experiences of young people in the contemporary period, particularly within their community and school.
