Abstract:

This study examined the relationship between mental health and academic performance among Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) students at Northern Zambales College Inc. during the 2025–2026 academic year. Mental health factors, including stress, anxiety, and depression, were analyzed alongside academic performance indicators such as academic interaction, study habits, and learning environment. Using a descriptive-correlational research design, data were collected from 201 students selected through purposive sampling across all year levels. Structured questionnaires were used to assess both mental health and academic performance, and data were analyzed using weighted means, rankings, analysis of variance, and Pearson correlation. Results revealed that students strongly agreed on the positive influence of the learning environment and academic interaction, while study habits at home were rated moderately high. Mental health concerns were present, with stress identified as the most prominent issue, followed by anxiety and depression. Significant differences were observed in academic performance by year level and age (for learning environment), and in mental health by year level (anxiety and depression) and sex (depression). A moderate positive relationship was found between mental health and academic performance, indicating that better emotional well-being is associated with higher academic achievement. These findings highlight the need for targeted mental health interventions, including counseling services, stress management workshops, and integration of mental health education into the curriculum. Supporting students’ study habits and fostering positive learning environments can further enhance academic outcomes. The study underscores the importance of addressing mental health to improve both the well-being and performance of future educators, and suggests avenues for further research across other programs and institutions.
