Abstract:
This study focused on gathering narratives which are connected to the heirlooms of the Bangsamoro-Maguindanaon. Using ethnographical approach, the researcher gathered narratives from twelve informants who are native Maguindanaons and presently owning a heirloom from their ancestors. Then, Moustakas (1994) phenomenological approach was also applied in this study for the thematic analysis of the collected narratives. It was found out in the study that heirlooms are not merely material culture itself from the ancestors. Instead, these are full of essential stories which are proven in Bangsamoro history. Each heirloom contains a significant story about its use in the past and present, with cultural and historical implications. Therefore, heirlooms are clear reflection of the way of life of the Maguindanaon ancestors which is passed to the present generation. Based on the results and conclusion of the study, it is humbly recommended by the researcher to: 1) Develop an instructional material that contains pictures and narratives of the Maguindanaon heirlooms, 2) Conduct a training to the Maguindanaon heirloom keepers on proper taking care, protection and preservation of heirlooms, and 3) Conduct a deeper similar study which focuses on the heirlooms of other ethnic groups in Mindanao.
