Abstract:
Through the development of social media, and information delivery has been changed it also brings several reasons and intellectual issues to students. This paper explores students’ obsession with using Social Media and the learning effects that focus on using, being immersed in the internet, obtaining information, and procrastinating of school paper work resulting from excessive use of social media. Interviews were conducted with students and teachers who use Social media in teaching. It was also found that students are skilled in using it in their daily learning. The data obtained from the respondents is confidential on gathering the results on this research. This research used the qualitative method to analyze students’ social media habits and its effect to learning. This can lead to decreased productivity of student output, attention spans and increased delay doing something to be done on time. The study identifies the applicable uses of social media sites as what 1) information may learn from it; 2) effect in usage of social media; 3) frequent used of social media; and 4) reasons in using. It is a learning tool for students in everyday life and emphasizes learning through its usage. It was also found out that students have the skill to use it in daily learning. The paper urges every individual, educator, and institution to make policy to address the excessive use of Social Media proactively and encourages further research to explore effective interventions. Further research is encouraged to explore effective interventions for teaching Filipino, and to examine some of the results of previous studies that utilize teaching-learning for the classroom.
