Abstract:
This study aimed to identify the origin stories of the names of each barangay in the town of Pilar. A qualitative-descriptive design was used in the study. Purposive random sampling was used by the researcher in selecting participants from the barangay, which has a total of 147, from five (5) types of generations or age groups, where the researcher conducted interviews with those who have knowledge about their barangay’s story. The collected data was carefully analyzed and interpreted. Based on the thorough analysis of the researcher, the rich history of naming the barangays in Pilar can be traced back to their origin stories, where respect is shown to saints, names of people, connections to nature, location, livelihood, animals, objects, and even the remnants of their past during the colonial period. The resulting output can be applied to lesson plans that teachers can use as a foundation for teaching. It is also a local reading material that will introduce and highlight a treasure of the town of Pilar, which helps strengthen education and tourism focused on the identity of the origin stories of the barangays in Pilar. It is recommended that the local government provide support and strengthen writers by allocating funds and implementing cultural programs. The stories created will serve as an important reference to express and disseminate the tales of each barangay and become useful teaching materials or platforms for instruction within the classroom.
