Abstract:

This study aimed to examine the correct use of “nang” and “ng” among grade 10 students at Tayud National High School, Consolacion, Cebu. A Static Group Comparison Design was used, where respondents answered a preliminary assessment to assess their ability to correctly use “nang” and “ng” using conventional teaching methods. In the final performance, the Cloze Passage strategy was used to assess the correct use of “nang” and “ng” and to improve their knowledge and interest in their correct use in sentences. The study found that the use of the Cloze Passage strategy had a positive effect. On the students’ assessment, especially in the correct use and interest in “nang” and “ng”. The results of the study show that using the Cloze Passage strategy, the students’ interest is aroused more and their use of “nang” and “ng” becomes more correct. This shows that the use of Cloze Passage is an effective strategy in teaching the correct use of “nang” and “ng”. The study recommended that Cloze Passage be included in the curriculum to improve students’ knowledge of correct grammatical usage.
